Tigrigna (ትግርኛ, nowadays usually spelled Tigrinya in English, as opposed to the older Italian spelling) is a Semitic language spoken in Ethiopian and Eritrea , where it is one of two official languages, and in parts of Ethiopia and Israel. It is written in the Ge'ez (also called Ethiopic) script.

In northern Ethiopia, the speakers of this language are known as Tigrawot (plural); the singular forms are Tigraway for male and Tigraweiti for female speakers. Classification of Tigrigna speakers in Eritrea, however, are split along sectarian lines; with Christians being identified as Tigrigna and Muslims as Jebertis.

Tigre language
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Tigre is a Semitic language descended from Ge'ez and is closely related to Tigrinya and Amharic. It is spoken by approximately one million people in Ethiopia and Eritrea with a few speakers in Sudan. Tigre is also the name for the people. The Tigre language and its speakers should not be confused with the Tigray province in Ethiopia, nor with the Tigrinyan people in Tigray and Eritrea
